Conquering the Quilt, One Block at a Time

Strip by strip, piece by piece I say. Earlier this summer I started working on a few different strip pieced projects and got hypnotized by color. Kaffe Fassett stole my heart and I ran with it! I actually started with a collection of tropical bright batiks that I will be constructing into various semi-freeform projects inspired by "Strips 'n Curves" by Louisa L Smith. I started cutting strips and realized I could work on Allison Quilt Designs: Color My World at the same time - which is so much fun to put together. I got carried away with my strip cutting and forgot to cut the larger strips for the border so I'll have to go back to it hahahaha. So here are some samples of my stratas and my first finished block!

  1. I look at the date and see that your post dates from 2008 but still... I just started a Strips and curves quilt myself and wondered if yours went along OK? Your pictures let us see a beautiful pattern and it is very inspiring for me. Thanks a lot for sharing them.

  2. Hey Louise! I am still getting used to not receiving notifications of replies so I am sorry for the extra long delay in getting back to you! The strips and curves has gone well - I think one of the tricks is to follow the seam pressing guideline to make the final cuts less bulky and easier to piece. Unfortunately the one I have above got put in my I.P. (in progress) box and I just may pull it out again now that it is spring :) I will post again when I have more of this one put together.
